Remember the baths in the sink?

Seems like it was just yesterday when my kids were in Grandmas sink..of course we can't break traditions so here we are 20 years later..

Can you blame me for loving this boy to death?

How the internet can help you connect to old friends

This has really been a strange couple of months for me. I have to tell you all a little about myself so you will really understand the impact of what has happened.

I grew up in Germany and met my now Ex husband when he was stationed over there in the Army. I was the typical teenager, part of a group of friends, we hung out together, cried together and partied together. I was the first one of our group to move to the states to marry in 1988. Slowly everyone ended up over here, which is strange in itself, everyone married their boyfriends, but we all ended up strung out all over the country and never really had a chance to visit each other. Since i've been over here i've had visits from 2 of my old german friends but that was a few years after being here.

Fast forward...21 years later, i had lost contact with most of them, some went back to germany, some moved, life just happened and we just lost each other. A couple of years ago i found my best friend and we try to keep in touch, but the rest..they just seemed to have disappeared. I would look, i would google, i would search myspace for names, you name it i've tried it, i finally just gave up.

Out of the whole group i used to "hang with" in germany, there were a couple of people i really missed, you know the ones you just felt that you had that bond with. Last month i received an email from a german website (similar to classmates.com) that someone had sent me a message, so i went to check it out. One of those 2 people that i was close to had found me, and sent me her number. She's still in the states and i think we talked for about 2 hours trying to catch up. I was so thrilled..but i was still missing that other one.

So saturday comes around and i'm browsing the web, twittering doing my thing and i decided to log into facebook, i made an account months ago, never really used it, no profile picture, no friends, but i just thought i log in for..well nothing really. I had a friend request..i look at the name, i thought hmm..i know that name, but the picture on the profile wasn't really clear and i thought i don't know this dude..why is he asking to be my friend? So i look at his profile...retired from the army after 21 years, living in germany, bla bla bla..i thought ARE YOU KIDDING ME? yep you guessed it...my long lost friends husband. Now talk about being shocked..i almost did a happy dance. We exchanged a few emails since then and they are both just as thrilled as i am that we found each other again, so now we are in the beginning stages of trying to figure out how to meet up, when, where, should they come, should i go..you know, the chaotic planning that is wishful thinking at this point but we hope to make it reality within the next 2 years.

I'm just throwing this post out there, i know there are many people that hope to find friends, family etc on the net...it is possible! My friends always make fun of me cause i seem to be signed up with everything, well sometimes it can make it a big difference. Don't give up, keep searching, besides these 2 i also found an aunt of mine and my cousins a few years ago that i hadn't seen in at least 25 years. So keep the faith, it is possible!

Well it's monday..

I really do despise Mondays. How come 3 days off fly by so fast and then monday comes around and time stands still? Just not right!
We went to the lake saturday, i took my grandson with me since he just loves being outdoors. It was HOT, i spent most of the time trying to keep him comfortable and i might have a biased opinion here..but he is a trooper. Almost 9 months old and he is the easiest going baby EVER.
Showed off the flamedisk again that i had won. I have won a lot of things over the last few years, but i have to admit this little invention has impressed more people than i can count. They are totally worth the money, quick lighting (matches included), you can cook in 5 minutes, clean up is a breeze and they are cleaner burning so you are helping the environment too..great little things, i'll definately order some. I just want to note that this is my honest opinion, the company has not given me any incentive to post this..just wanted to throw that out there in case someone is wondering, i'm just really in love with the flamedisks.
Yesterday it was time to hit some stores, made a trip to CVS, Homeland and Walmart. Caught up on some shopping since i've been slacking in that area the past couple of weeks. Well that sums up my weekend, before i knew it monday morning was here....sigh how i hate that alarm clock

Plans for the weekend

Today was my biweekly friday off and instead of sleeping in i got up at 6:45 and decided to be a little productive. It's likely that whoever reads this doesn't know me but lets just say..me getting up at 6:45 am on my day off? doesn't happen very often.
But anywho...by 8:30 i had laundry going and was outside mowing the lawn...i have this thing about my lawn..once i see a few patches of grass growing higher than the rest of the yard, i want to mow. Right now you are probably thinking "wow she must have a nice yard" uhmm..sure..far from it. My yard should look like this:

but instead it looks similar to this one:

After a shower i headed to Old Navy with my daughter, i got a $75 off $100 coupon yesterday and we ended up with a lot of good stuff.

Back home..cleaning..babysitting grandson, and tomorrow we are going back to the lake for some tubing and getting together with family and friends..Well that's all from here..anyone got anything exciting planned this weekend or any idea how i can perk up my lawn?

Flamedisk review

I won a 3pack of flamedisks from a giveaway that @copperbrickroad hosted a few days ago. After giving her my mailing address i was very impressed on how quickly the package arrived. Before the contest i had never heard of this new invention to grilling so i was eager to try it out since we are HUGE..yes HUGE BBQ people...that's what we do, all summer long. Such a great way to gather family and friends.

After saturdays fishing nightmare that you can read about here we ended up going to Lake Carl Blackwell on sunday and met up with a bunch of family and friends. Everyone had a great time swimming, tubing and just hanging out visiting.

When it was time to cookout my brother in law pulled out a big bag of charcoal and lighter fluid. I told him they weren't necessary, since i had brought the flame disks along that i had won. I have to say at first everyone was eyeing the little packages like i had lost my mind, but they changed their minds in about 5 minutes.

We read the instructions and used 2 flame disks since the picnic area had a pretty large grill. They lit up quickly and we were able to start cooking in about 5 minutes, instead of having to wait 20 minutes for the charcoal to get hot, not to mention it was so much safer, my brother in law and lighter fluid are an accident waiting to happen..AHEM.

The disks lasted a little under an hour, enough time for us to cook for about 20 people, the clean up was a breeze! They cooled off quickly and we didn't have to worry about all the kids getting burnt long after we were done, like we usually do.

These flamedisks work great! Everyone was impressed so i would like for you to check out their website http://www.ugogrill.com/ and look at the video. It's a new way of grilling ya'll!

Storm+Lake and boat=Nightmare

Well do i have a story for you...
Saturday my boyfriend and I had one of those rare chances to go fishing late in the evening.
So after going thru our checklist:
  • Checking local weather (little storm, showing to be going north of us, we are clear)
  • Packing snacks
  • Change of clothes (been sick and figured it might get cool(er))
  • Getting boat ready

Off we go. We get to the lake, unload the boat, go to our favorite fishing spot (wayyy out at the other end of the lake), cast our lines.

Ten minutes later i am watching the sky...thinking to myself hmm..pretty dark clouds, must be that storm that showed on the radar but it showed it will go north of us, no worries, right? right??? Because our weathermen are always wrong right!

The clouds come closer, i hear thundering, i see lightening..clouds are beginning to swirl in the sky, smart girl i am i get on my crackberry and go to the weather website, while i'm staring at the radar trying to figure out where that big RED SPOT is..i feel a rain drop..then another. My boyfriend tells me to reel my lines in..i start getting nervous, both my lines tangle up. Then it hit us!

It is pouring down, the wind is blowing like crazy, the anchor isn't holding our bass boat yacht anymore. My boyfriend pulls the anchor in, starts the motor, then looks at me and says: "Put your lifevest on" HUH???? Call me slow but at that moment i realized, we are in HUGE trouble.

We are starting to putter towards the boat ramp at the OTHER END of the lake, i'm sitting in the boat with my lifevest on, getting beat up by hail, getting soaked, freezing my non existing hiney off...and i said my good byes to my girls and my grandson..Seriously. I knew this was it.

Needless to say i survived the "perfect storm" or i wouldn't be here blogging about it, it took us 15 minutes to make it to the boat ramp, we tied up the boat. A bunch of young smartmouths kids were sitting in a truck by the ramp, one rolled down the window while i got off the boat, beat up and soaked and goes "you all catch anything?"

I just glared at him and stomped to the truck, once we got in the truck we both burst out laughing, all i could say was "Guess that will give me something to blog about"
